Available Technology
Aircraft protection from directed energy using advanced materials
Markets Addressed
Aircraft fuselages made of composite materials are prone to damage from lightening strikes, since the composiste material is an insulator. The technology coats the composite with a coating of vanadium oxide which can rapidly shift to a conductive state in the event of a lightening strike, minimizing the imact of the strike.
