Our Business Development Team

The OTD team is an agile group of experienced professionals with diversified foundation in science, business development, intellectual property and contract law. The following are our business development leaders who work closely with Harvard faculty inventors and external entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals.

Isaac T. Kohlberg (
Senior Associate Provost and Chief Technology Development Officer

Isaac joined OTD in 2005, as Chief Technology Officer and Senior Associate Provost. Prior to joining Harvard, he served (from 1989 to 2000) as Vice Provost of New York University and Vice Dean for Industrial Liaison and Research Administration at the New York University School of Medicine.  Most recently, Isaac was Chief Executive Officer of the Tel Aviv University Economic Corporation and CEO of RAMOT, its technology transfer organization. Isaac was also CEO of the YEDA Research and Development Company, the technology transfer company of the Weizmann Institute of Science, for eight years. He received his LLB from Tel Aviv University and his MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.

Rich Alcock, JD (
Senior Associate Director of Technology Transactions - MTAs (Cambridge Office)

Rich joined OTD in 2012. Prior to joining Harvard, Rich spent three years at Partners HealthCare in its Office of Research Ventures & Licensing, where he negotiated confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements, among others. Previous to that, he worked in the general counsel’s office at Critical Therapeutics, Inc., a publicly traded life sciences company. Rich also worked for about five years in the business law departments of Boston law firms Hutchins, Wheeler and Dittmar, PC, and Hale and Dorr, LLP. Rich holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA from Boston College.

Vivian Berlin, PhD (
Director of Business Development (Cambridge Office)

Vivian joined OTD in 2008. Prior to joining Harvard, over the last 17 years, Vivian held positions in research management and business development at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Mitotix and GPC Biotech. She has led multiple R&D programs, advanced programs from discovery to late pre-clinical development, and helped to establish proprietary positions in several therapeutic areas. She has also been a strategic consultant to several life science companies and investor groups. Vivian holds an MS from the Harvard School of Public Health, a PhD from Stanford University, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.

Ray Camahort, PhD (
Business Development Associate (Cambridge Office)

Ray joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining, Ray was a National Institute of Health training fellow and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology where he studied the link between obesity and metabolic diseases such as type II diabetes. He concurrently worked in the business development unit at Partners Healthcare Research Ventures and Licensing to assess commercialization potential of incoming technologies. Ray was also a pre-doctoral fellow at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, MO where he pioneered research on a novel gene required for proper cell division. Ray holds a PhD from the University of Kansas in biochemistry and molecular biology, and a BS degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Rene Castro, PhD (
Director of Business Development (Cambridge Office)

Rene joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining Harvard, he spent 13 years in the life science industry sourcing, structuring and negotiating licensing, collaboration, M&A and financing transactions. Renéerved in senior corporate development positions at RaNA Therapeutics, Anza Therapeutics and Exelixis, and was a consultant to several other biopharmaceutical companies. He also worked as an investment banker in the healthcare group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Renéarned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, was a postdoctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute, and earned a PhD in organic chemistry and a BM with honors in music performance with a minor in chemistry from the University of Miami.

Su Chiang, PhD (
Senior Associate Director, Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator (Cambridge Office)

Su joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining, Su obtained pre- and post-doctoral training in bacterial pathogenesis and spent nine years in academic research project management directed towards the discovery and development of antimicrobial therapeutics and vaccines. She held a number of responsibilities at the New England Regional Center of Excellence in Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases (NERCE) at HMS, where she oversaw the provision of high-throughput screening resources to investigators across the US, and was a key member of the administrative team for the NERCE program. Su holds an AB in Biochemical Sciences and a PhD in Medical Sciences from Harvard University.

Anne Craig, JD (
Director of Intellectual Property (Cambridge and Harvard Medical School Office)

Anne joined OTD in 2006. Prior to joining Harvard, Anne practised as a patent attorney in private practice for thirteen years and served for seven years as in-house Patent counsel, including a term as Chief Patent Counsel, to small biotechnology start-ups and a large pharmaceutical company. Anne also has four years of business law and litigation experience, including two years as a judicial law clerk in the Massachusetts Trial court system. Anne holds a JD from the New England School of Law, a Masters of Management from Cambridge College, and a BS in Biology from the University of MA, Amherst.

Sara Cushman, JD (
Senior Associate Director of Technology Transactions (Cambridge Office)

Sara joined OTD in 2014. Prior to joining, she was an associate in the corporate and litigation departments of Bromberg & Sunstein LLP in Boston, focusing on IP litigation and licensing, and also spent some time practicing law in the area of estate planning at a small firm in Newton. In addition, Sara was a program manager for the bicycle planning department with the City of Boston and spent eight years as a coach of the nordic ski team at Harvard. Sara holds a JD from Boston College Law School and an AB degree in biological anthropology (now human evolutionary biology) from Harvard University.

Sarah Douglas, PhD (
Alliance Manager (Harvard Medical School Office)

Sarah joined OTD in 2014. Prior to joining, Sarah was a graduate student at Harvard University, where she researched the molecular basis of social behavior in bacteria, and founded an on-line science policy forum. Previously, she worked as public relations professional for open source software companies in San Francisco, and as a writer for Wired magazine. Sarah holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Harvard University.

Jessica Duda, MA, MEM (
Director of Business Development (Wyss Institute and Cambridge Office)

Jessica joined OTD in 2014. Jessica's career has focused on early stage medical device development from both the entrepreneurial and venture capital perspectives. Prior to joining OTD, Jessica was with Third Rock Ventures, where she founded and ran all business development activities for NinePoint Medical, a platform imaging company. Her previous roles at Cyberkinetics focused on corporate development, regulatory matters, and manufacturing, and at Polaris Venture Partners, she developed strategic business plans for biotech and medical device companies. Jessica earned an AB degree from Dartmouth College and BE, MS, and MEM degrees from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.

Maryanne Fenerjian, PhD, JD (
Director of Technology Transfer Policy (Cambridge Office)

Maryanne joined OTD in 1999. Prior to joining Harvard, Maryanne served as a technical specialist for the law firm of Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. She has held postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Molecular Biology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University. Maryanne holds a JD  from Suffolk University Law School, as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University, including a PhD in Biology from the Department of Cellular and Developmental Biology (now MCB).

Meghan McCollum Fenno, JD (

Meghan joined OTD in 2011. Prior to joining Harvard, she worked for three years as Associate Counsel for the University of Massachusetts system, supporting its technology transfer offices and offices of research. Meghan also worked for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services as an Assistant General Counsel responsible for technology licensing and development agreements related to the healthcare industry. Prior to that, she was an associate in the Business Law Departments of Saul Ewing, LLP, in Philadelphia, and Choate, Hall and Stewart, in Boston, where she was responsible for technology licensing arrangements, private equity and M&A transactions, and general corporate matters. Meghan holds a JD from the Northeastern University School of Law and a BA from Wellesley College.

Alan D. Gordon (
Director of Business Development (Cambridge Office)

Alan joined OTD in 2005. Prior to joining Harvard, Alan was a Technology Licensing Officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Alan has also served as manager of pre- and post-sales services at WebLine Communications, and his work led to the company's acquisition by Cisco Systems. Alan has also held key technical, sales, and business development roles at several other Boston area start-up companies. Alan holds a degree in Materials Science from MIT.

Jordan Grant, JD (
Senior Associate Director of Technology Transactions (Cambridge Office)

Jordan joined OTD in 2014. Prior to joining Harvard, Jordan was Senior Counsel at Klavens Law Group PC, where he focused his corporate practice on clean technology companies and renewable energy project development. Prior to that, he worked for seven years in the Business Group of the Boston-based law firm Goulston & Storrs PC, representing early stage technology companies, academic medical centers, health care institutions, and real estate developers. Jordan also worked for about three years in the Project Finance Group of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in New York. He holds a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA from Columbia College.

Julie Hamill, MBA (
Senior Associate Director of Corporate Alliances (Harvard Medical School Office)

Julie Hamill joined OTD in 2011. Prior to joining Harvard, Julie worked in Boston University's Office of Sponsored Programs. Prior to that she worked at Merck Research Laboratories, Boston, in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics. Julie holds a BS in Chemistry from Villanova University and an MBA, with a concentration in Health Sector Management, from Boston University.

Leah Tenney Keating, JD (
Senior Associate, Technology Transactions (Cambridge Office)

Leah joined OTD in 2006 and the Technology Transactions team in 2012. In her current role, Leah supports the business development team through drafting and negotiating a variety of technology transfer contracts, as well as managing OTD's license enforcement process. From 2006-2012, Leah was instrumental in managing the rapid growth of OTD's industry sponsored research program, primarily related to research compliance and administration. Leah earned a JD, cum laude, with a concentration in Intellectual Property from the Suffolk University Law School Evening Program and a BA in French from Hamilton College.

Curtis Keith, PhD (
Chief Scientific Officer, Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator (Cambridge Office)

Curtis joined OTD in 2008. Prior to joining Harvard, Curtis worked at CombinatoRx, Inc., a pioneering company in the emerging field of synergistic combination pharmaceuticals, where he served as co-founder and Senior Vice President, Research. At CombinatoRx, Curtis directed research programs in multiple therapeutic areas, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, osteoarthritis, oncology, metabolic, neurodegenerative and infectious disease, and helped the company to advance a pipeline of several clinical and preclinical drug candidates. Curtis holds an MA in chemistry and a PhD in chemistry and chemical biology from Harvard University.

Sam Liss, MBA (
Director of Business Development (Cambridge Office)

Sam joined OTD in 2010. Prior to Harvard, Sam negotiated M&A transactions, representing small, privately-held technology and services businesses. Previously, he served in a variety of business development, marketing and sales roles at two venture capital-backed startups and was Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Dialogic Corporation, which was later acquired by Intel. He was also a management consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, advising clients in the software, semiconductor and electronics sectors. Sam holds an MBA from Columbia University and a BS in electrical engineering from Syracuse University.

Murray McCutcheon, PhD (
Business Development Associate (Cambridge Office)

Murray joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining, Murray was a senior consultant at Lux Research, where he advised clients on technology and competitive landscapes, partner searches, and business strategy related to emerging technologies. His research as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences focused on the nano-engineering of materials to control their optical properties, a field in which he co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications. Murray has PhD, MS, and BS degrees in Physics from the University of British Columbia. He also earned a BA in Politics and Economics at Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.

Jessica McDonough, PhD (
Business Development Associate (Wyss Institute)

Jessica joined OTD in 2014. Prior to joining Harvard, Jessica worked at Decision Resources as a Principal consultant. She worked with top pharmaceutical and biotech companies on over fifty engagements including topics such as therapeutic area landscapes, opportunity assessments, and valuations focusing on both the major and emerging markets. Jessica holds a PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Cellular and Molecular Medicine. While at Hopkins, her research focused on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and development of assays for sensitive detection of drug-resistant HIV variants. Jessica also holds a BS in biochemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Adam McNulty, MBA (

Adam joined OTD in 2007. Prior to joining Harvard, Adam worked at Interleukin Genetics, Inc. in business development and at Northeastern University's Office of Technology Transfer. Adam holds a BS in Biology from Trinity College and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Gauri Nair, PhD (
Business Development Associate (Harvard Medical School Office)

Gauri joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining Harvard, Gauri worked in the healthcare consulting firm, Scientia Advisors LLC on advisory projects for biotech, pharma and life science tools companies. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maryland in College Park for five years where she conducted research on aptamer inhibitors of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and the sequence preferences of reverse transcriptases from related retroviruses. She has been an account manager for life science tools companies such as Bio-Rad and Life Technologies in India before pursuing her doctoral studies in the United States. Gauri holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Biology, an MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Pune (India), and a BSc in Microbiology from St. Xavier’s College (Mumbai, India).

Michal Preminger, PhD, MBA (

Michal joined OTD in 2005. Prior to joining Harvard, she held a number of business development and technology development positions at Compugen, most recently as Vice President of Protein Therapeutics, responsible for the business management of the company's emerging drug discovery pipeline. Previously, Michal held several marketing and business development in the hi-tech industry, among others for Lucent Technologies. Michal also co-founded Anima Cell Metrology, a biotechnology startup focused on the real-time identification of proteins as they are synthesized in living cells. Michal holds an undergraduate degree in Medicine from the Hebrew University School of Medicine, a PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

David B. Pruskin (
Senior Associate Director of Operations and Administration (Cambridge Office)

David joined OTD in 2006. Prior to joining Harvard, David worked for CALTRANS, taught Math and Science in the Peace Corps (Lesotho), led wilderness courses for adjudicated youth with Outward Bound, and held Program Director positions for international adventure travel companies. His experience crosses the boundaries of administration, logistics and equipment management, budgeting, and human resources. David holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jen Rice, PhD (
Business Development Associate (Harvard Medical School/School of Public Health Office)

Jen joined OTD in 2014. Prior to joining Harvard, Jen was a Technology Manager and Special Programs Manager in the Office of Technology Management (OTM) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a Technology Manager, she handled the life science intellectual property portfolio of the University, working with University inventors to evaluate, market, and license their inventions, as well as educating the campus on the University’s technology transfer process and fostering corporate relationships. As a Special Programs Manager, she directed OTM’s Commercialization Analyst Intern Program consisting of graduate students from business, law, and science disciplines, and established a $500K campus-wide gap-funding program called the Illinois Proof of Concept (I-POC) Fund. Jen holds a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Boston University, and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sai Gopal, MBA (

Sai joined OTD in 2012. Prior to joining Harvard, most recently, Sai was the Interim Controller for Peoplefluent, Inc., where he managed their contract review and analysis process. Prior to that, he spent over 10 years in various executive roles at L-1 Identity Solutions, Secure Credentialing Division, where he was responsible for Financial Planning and Analysis, Contract Review and Administration, Internal Reporting, and general accounting and administration. Sai holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Akron (OH), a Bachelor'’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Karnataka Regional Engineering College, India, and a Certificate Course in Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control from National Productivity Council, India.

Mick Sawka, MBA (

Mick joined OTD in 2012. Prior to joining Harvard, Mick led global business units and R&D organizations at 3M, Cabot, and Microbia, with full P&L and IP portfolio responsibilities. Most recently he was the President and CEO of Qteros, an industrial biotechnology startup. In these roles, Mick commercialized numerous products and processes and negotiated joint development agreements, strategic partnerships and acquisitions in the chemicals, energy, electronics, and materials industries. Mick holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, an MS in Chemical Engineering from MIT, and an MBA in International Management from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota.

Karen Sinclair, JD (
Senior Associate Director of Intellectual Property (Wyss Institute Office)

Karen joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining Harvard, Karen served for three years as Division IP Counsel at Thermo Fisher Scientific, supporting its laboratory products and consumables divisions. Previous to that, she worked for seven years in the Intellectual Property Department of Boston law firms K&L Gates LLP and Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP. Karen holds a JD from Boston University and a BS in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan.

Elizabeth Dana Smith, JD (
Senior Associate Director of Technology Transactions (Wyss Institute Office)

Elizabeth joined OTD in 2011. Prior to joining Harvard, she worked for three years as an associate in the Licensing Group of the Business Law Department at Edwards, Angell, Palmer and Dodge. In addition, Elizabeth worked in the office of Corporate Sponsored Research and Licensing at Partners Healthcare and as in-house counsel for a Cambridge biotech company. Her practice is focused on Intellectual Property-based transactions, which include licensing, R&D collaborations, strategic partnerships, co-promote agreements and cross-border transactions. Elizabeth holds a JD from Suffolk Law School and a BA in History from Tulane University.

Anna-Rose Stember (
Associate Director of Education and Outreach (Cambridge Office)

Anna-Rose joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining Harvard, Anna-Rose managed communications and events at Brown University in both Career Services and the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. She also coordinated communications and training programs at Florida State University in the office of Enterprise Resource Planning. Anna-Rose holds a BA in English and Sociology from Florida State and an MA from Rhode Island College in Media Studies.

Grant Zimmermann, PhD (
Director of Business Development (Harvard Medical School Office)

Grant joined OTD in 2012. Prior to joining Harvard, Grant was Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Zalicus Inc. partnering an oncology-focused, combination-drug discovery platform with pharma and biotech. Previously, he was head of technology development and inflammation research at CombinatoRx, Inc. advancing multiple candidates through discovery and pre-clinical development, including a phase 2b candidate for rheumatoid arthritis. Grant holds a BS in biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD in chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School.

Leandro Vetcher, MBA (
Associate Director of Business Development, Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator (Cambridge Office)

Leandro joined OTD in 2013. Prior to joining Harvard, Leandro was CEO and co-founder of Green Pacific Biologicals, as well as a co-founder of the Argentina-based company, Keclon. Previously, he held research and business development positions at Kosan Biosciences and was an MBA intern with the Johnson & Johnson’s Mergers & Acquisitions team. Through his experiences, Leandro has secured venture financing; completed university licensing deals; evaluated emerging technologies, life science companies and new pharmaceutical projects; and developed strategies for the acquisition of early-stage biotechnology companies. Leandro earned an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MA in Biotechnology from Columbia University, and a Licentiate in Biotechnology from Rosario National University in Argentina.
